Sports Labs UK is a globally recognised independent body specialising in the testing, technology, and consultancy of sports surfaces and infrastructure. We provide scientific verification that pitches, tracks, and hard courts meet the rigorous performance, safety, and durability standards set by international sports federations.

We hold prestigious, independent accreditations from the world’s leading governing bodies, including FIFA, World Rugby, FIH (Hockey), World Athletics, ITF (Tennis), FIBA (Basketball), and World Squash.

This is the gold standard for laboratory competence. Our ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation means our laboratories have been independently audited to prove they produce technically precise and accurate test results. It is the mandatory requirement for results to be accepted by global federations like FIFA and World Rugby.

The LISPORT test is a standardised durability test that simulates multiple years of mechanical wear (using studded rollers) on a turf sample in just a few days. For facility owners, it provides objective data to compare the long-term wear resistance of different turf products, protecting their multi-million-pound investment. 

Construction monitoring involves regular on-site quality control audits during the building phase. Sports Labs technicians verify that materials, such as stone gradings, shock pads, and turf yarn and then match the agreed-upon specifications. This independent oversight prevents “specification drift” and ensures the finished asset delivers its full intended life expectancy and remains under warranty.

Yes. In our laboratory, we perform comprehensive rootzone and sand analysis, including Particle Size Distribution (PSD), hydraulic conductivity (drainage rate), and organic matter content. This scientific verification ensures natural pitches are constructed with the correct stability and drainage characteristics.
G-Max testing measures the shock attenuation (hardness) of a playing surface. Surfaces with poor shock pad performance can record dangerously high G-Max values, leading to an increased risk of athlete concussion and lower-limb injuries. Regular G-Max audits are mandatory to ensure player safety.
HIC testing specifically evaluates the risk of severe head injury during a fall. We use the technical HIC standard, typically in playgrounds, high-impact areas, or on surfaces with high critical fall heights (CFH), to ensure the system is safe and compliant with EN standards.
Governing bodies require re-testing to maintain certified status. For sanctioned match play, the frequency is usually: World Rugby (Regulation 22): Every two years. FIFA (Quality Pro): Annually. FIFA (Quality): Every two years.
If a field is failing (e.g., poor drainage or surface irregularities), a diagnostic survey identifies the technical root cause (e.g., contaminated infill, sub-base settlement). This scientific diagnostic prevents the need for an entire, costly resurfacing by pinpointing the specific, targeted remediation required.

The Triple A is a specialised impact apparatus that simulates the force of an athlete’s movement on a surface. It measures Force Reduction and Vertical Deformation to provide a biomechanical profile of the pitch, ensuring it offers the right balance of player comfort and energy return.

A photometric audit is an independent check of your floodlighting system using calibrated light meters. We provide transparent reporting on both average Lux levels and, critically, Uniformity (U1 and U2). This transparency ensures the facility is compliant with EN 12193 standards, avoiding light spill and providing clear visibility for both players and broadcasters.

Developed by Sports Labs, the Free Pile Ratio is a critical performance index used to monitor yarn health and infill levels.
